MASH-C Farms 2024 Beef Pricing

We charge $4.35/lb hanging weight.  This includes the cost of basic processing. If you want the butcher to tenderize certain cuts or make hamburger patties, that extra cost will be your responsibility. Costs fluctuate just like anything else in our economy. It will most likely fluctuate from year to year, but once the years price has been listed, it is locked in for the entire year. Factors that affect the price are market prices of the cattle and the cost of feed (corn, oats, and hay).

Our goal is to get the beef to around 1000-1200 lbs. live weight (weight of the animal before processing). When the processing starts, the animal will be stripped of the head, hide, and organs. The carcass is then hung to age. The weight of the meat at this point is called the hanging weight (usually about 62% of the live weight).  This is the weight we use to come up with your price. The hanging weight is NOT the take home weight. The take home weight is usually around 60-65% of the hanging weight. The weight lost is usually bone, fat, and water loss. The beef hangs for usually between 10-14 days in which it will shrink due to water loss.

Below is an example of how the pricing would work:

A quarter of Beef

·        Usually includes 80-120 lbs. of meat (depends on size of cow)

·        Will include ground meat, roasts, ribs, and steaks

·        Charge $4.35/lb. according to the hanging weight

1100 lbs. (live weight) x 62% = 682 lbs. (hanging weight)

682 lbs. x $4.35/lb = $2966.70 for whole beef

$2966.70 x 25% (your portion) = $741.67 final cost

 A half of Beef

·         Usually includes 150-200lbs. of meat

·        Will include ground meat, roasts, ribs, and steaks

·        Charge $4.35/lb. according to the hanging weight

1100 lbs. (live weight) x 62% = 682 lbs. (hanging weight)

682 lbs. x $4.35/lb = $2966.70 for whole beef

$2966.70 x 50% (your portion) = $1483.35 final cost

 A whole Beef

·         Usually includes 350-500 lbs. of meat

·        Will include ground meat, roasts, ribs, and steaks

$2966.70 final cost
